Buehler Machine Comparison

The Forcipol 202 compared to the Buehler Ecomet 30 Semi-Automatic Grinder Polisher

The main advantages the Forcipol 102/202 has over the Buehler Ecomet 30 is the base unit which has 750 watt motor power, which is suitable for large and heavy specimens, compared to the Buehler Ecomet 30 which only has 440 watt motor power that may not be suitable for grinding of large and heavy specimens. The automatic head on the Buehler Ecomet 30 can only apply up to 40N single force and 250N central force. Whereas, the Forcimat 102 can apply up to 70N single force and 500N central force. The Buehler Ecomet 30 has only 4 single pistons, which means only up to 4 specimens can be prepared in one cycle. Compared to the Forcimat 102 which has 6 single pistons.

Some other features the Buehler Ecomet 30 does not have;

  • There is no program memory feature
  • No grinding depth measurement sensor

Aquapol - Diamond Suspension

Aquapol is the next generation of water based diamond suspensions for sample preparation. Available in monocrystalline (Aquapol-M) and polycrystalline (Aquapol-P). Aquapol is easy to clean and non-foaming.

  • Manufactured to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Assurance standards
  • Uniform suspension of diamond particles
  • No agitation required
  • Suitable for dispensing by Kemet Electronic Dispenser or alternative systems
  • ZERO Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC*)
  • Colour coded for easy identification

ZERO Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) - not classified as an atmospheric pollutant and offer health and safety benefits. VOCs are organic chemicals that have a high vapour pressure at ordinary room temperature, some of which can be dangerous to human health and/or cause harm to the environment.

The Servocut 302 compared to the Buehler Abrasimatic 300

There are a number of features that the Servocut 302 has compared with the Buehler Abrasimatic 300. The main advantage the Servocut 302 has over the Buehler Abrasimatic is the feedrate for cutting sensitive materials, the Buehler Abrasimatic can not be set lower than 100 μm/s, compared to Servocut 302 which can be set between 20 to 5000 μm/s. The cutting chamber and small T-table measure at 365 x 254 mm on the Buehler Abrasimatic 300, the SERVOCUT 302 has a much larger cutting chamber and larger T-table measuring at 495 x 275 mm.

Some other features the Buehler Abrasimatic 300 does not have compared with the Servocut 302;

  • No automatic chop cutting feature
  • No variable wheel speed (2600 RPM fixed speed)
  • No laser allignment unit
  • No advanced fume condenser system
  • No joystick control

The Geoform compared to the Buehler Petrothin

There are a number of features that the Geoform has compared to the Buehler Petrothin. The main advantage the Geoform has over the Buehler Petrothin is that it has a seperate cutting chamber, so on the Petrothin, the grinding and cutting must be done in the same chamber. You can only cut specimens on glass slides with the Buehler Petrothin, so it is not possible to cut small pieces of rock unless you stick them to a slide first.

The Petrothin can only grind one sample at a time, so not suitable when multiple sample preparation is required. There is no illumination which makes it very difficult to observe the sample when grinding or cutting. The Petrothin has an integrated vacuum generator, which requires air pressure to work. However, it is known that this vacuum generator is not effective and not reliable, especially at high altitudes. There is no enclosed glass cover around the cutting/grinding chamber which makes this a safety risk when in use.

Some other features the Buehler Petrothin does not have;

  • No LCD touch screen
  • No variable disc speed (2200 RPM fixed speed)
  • It does not have an emergency stop button

The Ecopress 102 compared to the Buehler Simplimet 3000

There are a number of features that the Buehler Simplimet 3000 does not have compared with the Ecopress 102. The Buehler Simplimet 3000 keeps mould temperature at 40 °C. Whereas, the stand-by temperature on Ecopress Series can be adjusted from 20 °C to 60 °C. The maximum temperature that the Buehler Simplimet 3000 can reach is 180 °C, compared to the Ecopress which can reach up to 200 °C, which may be required for some applications. Some other features the Buehler Simplimet 3000 does not have;

  • No pre-heating feature
  • No adjustable stand-by temperature feature
  • No touch-screen LCD

The Micracut 152 compared to the Buehler Isomet 1000

There are a number of features that the Buehler Isomet 1000 does not have compared with the Micracut 152. The Buehler Isomet 1000 has electronic X-axis measurement system which can read the X-axis distance with 0.1 mm steps. Whereas the Micracut 152 has a more precise digital micrometer system, which can read the X-axis distance with 0.001 mm steps. The disc speed on the Buehler Isomet 1000 can be adjustable between 100 to 975 RPM compared to the Micracut 152 which can be adjustable between 100 to 1500 RPM. The control panel on the Buehler Isomet 1000 is little bit complicated and takes some time to set disc speed due to the up/down arrow. Whereas the Micracut 152 has a turn knob for setting disc speed rapidly.
